Ynys Mon Awards

The 2005 Ynys Mon Sports Awards were held at the Beaumaris Leisure Centre recently and three candidates from the world of golf faired very well.

Winner 16 year old TARA DAVIES Holyhead Golf Club for her success in competing for Wales at National level for both junior and senior teams. Her record at senior level is an impressive five wins out of six in the Home Internationals.

Junior Team of the Year

For successfully winning the YNYS MÔN inter club team championships for the fourth year. 10 teams competed over four rounds on different golf courses with the winners going on to Builth Wells for the National Final won this year by Wrexham Golf Club (the report on which appeared in the November 2005 news to be found in the archive section of this site).

Sports Person of the Year
Runner-up SCOTT PARRY from Holyhead Golf Club for successfully representing his senior county team, winning five out of six matches in the North Wales Counties league, winning his university title in Spain and for giving up his time during the school holidays to support junior golf on Anglesey. Scott was county junior champion and captain in 2003.

Becky's Honour
Welsh golf has further cause for celebration, with Becky Harries announced as the winner of the Joyce Wetherhead award for an up and coming golfer, at the Daily Telegraph Golf Awards for 2005.
Wethered, who won four of the six British titles in which she played from 1922-1929, specified that her trophy should go to an up-and-coming competitor who has successfully combined golf with education or a job. Becky has achieved this by studying on a business course at Pembrokeshire College and developing her game as a member of the College’s Golf Academy.

Nick Faldo, the Patron of Pembrokeshire Golf Academy, commented: “Congratulations to Becky on her well-deserved award. I am delighted that the opportunity for students to combine studies and golf at Pembrokeshire College Golf Academy is proving such a success.”
