Club Fundraising can be a laugh
Jongleurs Comedy Club in Cardiff has teamed up with
the Welsh Sports Association (WSA), the umbrella body for
all of the national governing bodies of sport and physical
recreation in Wales, to help golf clubs raise money by going
out and having a laugh.
The Millennium Plaza venue are the first major chain to sign
up to Welsh Sports Rewards, an initiative developed by the
WSA to enable Welsh sporting bodies and clubs to generate
much needed income.
Clubs can take advantage of the initiative by organising
a social event at Jongleurs, purchasing tickets directly from
the comedy club for £4 per person using a code provided
by the Welsh Sports Association and charging members £8
(the standard entry price).
Jongleurs’ promotions manager, Lex Levene explains
the support they are giving to Welsh Sport
“Each Friday night, for every Welsh sports club affiliated
to this initiative, we are giving the opportunity to use our
venue to host fundraising events. For every ticket they buy,
we will donate a similar face value ticket in return. We organise
the comedy and the catering, sports clubs just organise themselves".
The Welsh Sports Association is standing by to help you maximise
the potential of this initiative, so please visit: http://www.trytime.org.uk/mainsite/jongleurs.html

Dragons
in swing with Golf Club link
ALICE SPRINGS has become the official golf club of Newport
Gwent Dragons and has extended corporate memberships to the
Dragons' players and team officials.
Golf is popular among the Dragons and the players said they
were looking forward to a competition at Alice Springs to
establish who is king of the hill.
Dragons coach, Chris Anderson said: "I'm a keen player
myself and find it a great way to relax. I'm quite happy to
see the players on the greens in between matches."
Alice Springs has been under new ownership since October
1 last year. It was acquired by Dave Rowlands, a Torfaen-based
petrol station entrepreneur, and Chris Battin, a Maesycwmmer-
born airline pilot who has spent much of the last 20 years
in the Middle East.
The two men got together through a common interest in golf.
Mr Rowlands said: "The link-up with the Dragons is all
about helping to raise the profile of our club and supporting
the endeavours of one of Gwent's most successful teams."
