right is the inflatable driving range that was operated by
Golf Development Wales at this years Royal Welsh Show.
Over 1,000 people of all ages were given free golf tuition
by an army of Welsh PGA Professionals.

The HSBC
World Matchplay Roadshow was also on site where people
competed in a nearest the pin 3 shot challenge and we also
had the Nike
Golf Roadshow there, demonstrating the latest range of Nike
golf equipment.

Family
Tournament |
Aberdare Golf Club will this year again be the venue for
the second running of The Fairways to Heaven Family Classic
tournament.
This is a competition that is open to pairs comprising of
an adult and junior (they needn't be related in any way).
It is designed primarily with fun in mind, but there are
also lots of worthwhile prizes on offer e.g. BMI Baby flight
vouchers, World Rally Jackets, etc.
The competition is on Monday 1st August at Aberdare Golf
Club and anyone interested in applying should contact Peter
Hands on (01443) 687057.

Royal
Welsh Show - GDW with Nike and HSBC |
Golf
Development Wales will again be attending the Royal Welsh
Show in Builth Wells, providing beginners both young and old
with an opportunity to try their hand at the game.
We have secured the services of the Nike
Golf Roadshow, where Welsh Professionals will be providing
free 15 minute lessons in an inflatable driving range.
In addition, HSBC
will be bringing their golf simulator where you can attempt
to play some of the most famous holes in the world of golf.
Why not come along and see us at the Sports Arena near entrance
B of the showground. |
Girls
Win Bronze & Boys in Top Flight |
The Welsh Girls team finished a magnificent 3rd in the
European
Team Championships in Lucerne. The team of won the bronze
medal behind first placed England and silver medallists
Sweden. This is a great result for a very young Welsh Girls
team. Congratulations to the team and management.

Meanwhile, over in Italy, the Welsh Boys
ended a creditable 8th at their European Team Championships.
Top flight status was the objective and congratulations to the
team and management on achieving this goal. |
Girls
beat Spanish Favourites |
The Welsh Girls team at the European
Girls Team Championships in Lucerne pulled off a magnificent
win by beating the Spanish team in the first flight competition.
Having qualified first in the strokeplay stages at the Swiss
venue, Spain were well fancied to march on to the semi-finals
of the EGA competition.

However, they didn't count on
a plucky pefromance from the Welsh team which finished in the
last qualifying place (8th) of the first flight competition.
They will now play Sweden in one of the semi-finals, with Denmark
facing England in the other. |
Coed-y-Mwstwr
Opens New Development |
| Friday 1st of July sees the
Welsh Assembly minister for Sport, Alun Pugh AM, open the new
holes at the Coed-y-Mwstwr
golf course, near Bridgend. Golf Development Wales has trained
a number of volunteers at the club as Junior Leaders and hopes
that the new development together with the enthusiasm of these
volunteers will see Coed-y-Mwstwr juniors go from stength to
strength. |
Developments at Ryder
Cup Wales Seniors Open |
The Ryder
Cup Wales Seniors Open is once again being held over
the challenging links of Royal St. David's Golf Club in
Harlech. Prominent stars such as Sam Torrance, Brian Huggett
and Nigel Mansell are vying for the first prize of £75,000.
Golf Development Wales is running a series of Tri-Golf sessions
for youngsters on the Saturday and Sunday of the tournament,
following on from the very successful junior pro-am that
was held on Wednesday 29th.
