Faldo
Mini-Series returns for 2007 |
| The
Faldo Mini Series, in association with the Golf Foundation and
Golf Development Wales, aims to create a comprehensive list
of short course events across the British Isles for children
aged under 12, while offering a great incentive to all the youngsters
taking part; winners’ names go into a draw with a chance
to meet six-time Major winner Nick Faldo.
This is the second year that the initiative
has been run. In 2006, after 84 events were held nationwide
involving 2,500 youngsters, winners were chosen to meet Nick
Faldo. Last year Nick took part in a series of skills challenges
using Tri-Golf equipment before talking at length about his
golfing experiences to the budding young players. A similar
event will be staged later this year on completion of all
the short course competitions.
Nick Faldo said: “The Faldo Mini
Series is such an important initiative for us because it helps
us provide further opportunities for young golfers that can
benefit from what the Faldo Series has to offer. At
last year’s seminar during the Faldo Series final I
was genuinely impressed with the level of interest and the
quality of the questions that these young golfers put forward.
It is our hope that some of these players will go on to compete
in the Faldo Series final and perhaps one day in the future
become successful amateur and professional golfers in their
own right.”
All events for under 12s, which meet
the Faldo Mini Series criteria, can be part of this innovative
initiative. Organisers holding events before 2nd September
2007 are invited to register free of charge with the Golf
Foundation and their event winners will be eligible to go
into the prize draw. From this draw, 12
boys and 12 girls will be selected to meet Nick Faldo.
A registration form
for the Faldo Mini Series has been sent to every golf club
and the information can also be downloaded from the Golf Foundation’s
website – www.golf-foundation.org
– or via the Faldo Series website at www.nickfaldo.com.
It's easy to take part and it costs nothing,
so register your event today and give the juniors taking part
in your event the chance to meet Nick Faldo.

Wee Wonder |
With
the 2007 HSBC Wee Wonders competition underway, it is interesting
to note how a previous winner of the event is progressing.
Seven-year-old Luke
Harries of South Pembs and Trefloyne Golf Club (pictured right),
has got his golfing year off to a great start. At the end
of April, Luke played in the British Junior Golf Tour ‘Winter
Series’ National Final at The DeVere Dunston Hall, Norwich,
having won his category at the welsh qualifier at Garnant
Park GC several weeks prior.
Dunston Hall was a very challenging course with the competition
played over 18 holes, off the ladies red tees. Luke finished
in 2nd place with a gross 91. Two shots off the lead.
Luke now hopes to compete
in the ‘Summer Series’ where the National Final
is being held at The Belfry.
Earlier this year Luke played
on foreign soil again, having been invited to play in The
Jekyll Island Cup, Georgia. After three medal rounds, Luke
came 7th against competitors from all over the World. This
invitation came about through his fine performance at the
US Kids Golf World Championships last Summer which in turn
was a result of his victory at the grand final of the HSBC
Wee Wonders.
