The
Grove Golf Club has received a thumbs-up for encouraging
youngsters onto its greens and fairways.
The club near Porthcawl
is the first club in Wales to receive accreditation from
Golf Development Wales and the Golf Union of Wales. It has
been rewarded with Junior GolfCert
– a seal of approval which marks the club’s
commitment to junior golf.
And not only is it the first
club in Wales to receive this recognition, the club has
also scooped the highest possible level of commendation
– the Higher award.
The Grove has a first-class
track record in terms of encouraging and motivating juniors
to play golf.
Golf Development Wales Chairman
Andrew B Morgan explains,
“Junior GolfCert
aims to reward and recognise those clubs who are striving
to increase the numbers of young people playing golf. Golf
Development Wales has developed a national standard and
this accreditation clearly demonstrates those clubs dedicated
to fostering the game at junior and beginner levels.
In the run up to the
2010 Ryder Cup in Wales, there is a definite buzz and I’m
delighted to see clubs in Wales investing in both the future
of their clubs and the game of golf,” he added.
The Grove will retain its
Junior GolfCert status until the beginning of 2010, the
year Wales stages the Ryder Cup at The Celtic Manor Resort.
“We are honored to
receive this accreditation and it is a reflection of the
commitment of the Grove Golf Club in its drive to develop
junior golf in the community. We would like to thank the
Directors, members and parents for their involvement, we
would also like to thank the GUW and in particular the Golf
development Wales staff for their assistance through the
process.” said Mike Davies chairman of the Grove Junior
Section.
