William makes it three in a row at ping welsh junior tour

12 July 2017

William Pontin continued his exceptional start to the season following up Ping Welsh Junior Tour wins at Parc and Mold in the Under 10s age group with a third straight win at Carmarthen.

Golf Union of Wales Championship Manager David Wilson said, “I have to congratulate William on his performance, 61 points at Carmarthen is an exceptional score and to win three events in a row is a testament to just how well he is playing.”

Dion Regan and George Coombs from Cilgwyn and The Glamorganshire respectively enjoyed second and third place finishes, whilst fourth place for Builth Wells’ Thomas Edwards was good enough to hold on to second place in the U10s Order of Merit table.

The U14s enjoyed a day of tremendous scoring with Lottie Raymond from Llanwern scoring 42 stableford points to edge out Zak Baker by a single point.

Junior Tour newcomer Theo Bailey from Glynhir enjoyed a great day with 39 points and third place. Another consistent performance from Josh Chamberlain was enough to ensure that he retains top spot in the Order of Merit table with two events to go.

However, the highlight of the day went to Archie James from Pennard with a hole in one at the 122 yard 9th hole.

The U12s Order of Merit is wide open with seven players within 3 points of each other after the first three events of the season.

Ryan Williams from Bargoed leads the way following a seventh place finish at Carmarthen to add to his runner up position at Parc earlier in the season.

Hot on his heels are Josh Westcott from Ashburnham and Pyle & Kenfig’s Brodi Lewis who took second place at Carmarthen. Kian Orford, playing in his first Junior Tour event of the season, put himself in the mix with a fine 57 points to claim the honours at the Carmarthen event.

Archie Weeks from Blackwood claimed the U8s category with 57 points followed by Harry Edwards from Builth Wells with 53 in second, just a point ahead of Tomas Carlson from Milford Haven.

Harry’s consistent start to the season, with two runners up positions and a third place, takes him to the top of the Order of Merit Table, a point ahead of Reuben Baker from neighbouring Llandrindod Wells.

Wilson added, “Carmarthen Golf Club has again been a great host to this event and we are genuinely grateful to the club’s members for allowing us the use of the course and facilities.

“It has been tremendous to see so many young players and their families enjoy their day at the Junior Tour.

“We very much look forward to the next two events at Abergele and Lakeside Garthmyl before moving on to the Tour Final at the St Pierre Marriot Hotel and Country Club in the Autumn.”
