New website to boost junior golf in Wales

10 August 2009

A new golf website is aimed at helping clubs in encouraging youngsters into golf and giving them the chance to earn practice day tickets to next year’s Ryder Cup in Wales.

Golf Development Wales has launched the Junior Golf Guide website, which will help clubs achieve Junior Golf Cert.

The structure for juniors to play and learn will also give those clubs the chance to go to the Ryder Cup practice days next year, so it is a win, win situation for those looking to develop the junior game in Wales.

Already there are 16 clubs in Wales which have achieved Junior Golf Cert status, with the target being to increase that to 30 by the end of the year. Those clubs who achieved Junior GolfCert in its launch year have on average increased their junior membership by 17.5% the following year.

There is a CD Rom for clubs, which is now also on the website www.juniorgolfguide.org which is introduced by former British Ladies amateur champion turned BBC commentator Maureen Madill.

“This is a new resource for junior golf in Wales,” she explained. “It will give loads of help to those involved in the organisation and development of junior golf.

“I can recommend it as a source of information and best practice.

“The future of this great game depends on the young people and the vital role the golf clubs in Wales play in nurturing thos people as individuals and golfers.

“Within golf clubs the junior organiser is fundamental to that process and I urge all clubs in Wales to give their support to the junior organiser.”

There is much more information on the website for anyone looking to develop the junior structure at their club.
