Free help for every Welsh golf club to ‘Secure the Future’

01 February 2010

Every golf club in Wales is being offered free help to secure their future, with advice on how to recruit and retain members.

The Golf Development Wales resource is available free, a chunky information pack of advice which contains examples of best practice and plenty of shared ideas.

The advice pack also contains the results of the 2009 Welsh Golf Club survey so all clubs can compare themselves with the national results throughout Wales.

Included in the information pack is a sample Welcome Booklet for all new and trial members which has been sponsored by SWALEC and can be provided free to all new members.

“This guide called ‘Securing the Future’ will be a great help to golf clubs throughout Wales and we are providing it free – they just have to get in touch and tell us who to send it to,” explained Hannah Fitzpatrick, director of golf development.

“This resource is full of valuable advice, some examples for them to think about and statistics to help them understand how they compare.

“We understand there is a challenge in maintaining member numbers in these tough economic times, but this will help clubs to recruit and maintain members.

“We are confident the advice contained in it will do exactly what it says on the package and help all clubs in Wales to secure their futures.

“We will also be offering a selection of clubs each year some help to construct a club development plan, they just need to tell us if they are interested in being considered for this free assistance.”

The information pack contains:

• Advice on conducting a club audit to see if there is a need for change

• Help on effective marketing to keep membership healthy, as well as attracting new members.

• How to encourage new golfers and recruit members.

• Provide incentives for membership.

• How to offer value for money.

• How to keep members happy

To get this superb free resource, clubs just have to ring Golf Development Wales at the Golf Union of Wales offices or e-mail sian.simmons@golfunionwales.org , providing details of where it should be sent. Additional copies can be bought for £20.
