SWALEC-sponsored 'Beginners Start Golfing' scheme to run in 25 Clubs
SWALEC, a leading energy provider in Wales, has joined forces with Golf Development Wales this season to sponsor a series of 'Beginners Start Golfing' initiatives in 25 golf clubs throughout Wales.
Following the Wales-wide Golf Awareness Week (12th-18th April), the clubs will offer a range of initiatives including free taster sessions, free or low cost lessons and additional continuation lessons and trial membership offers to try to attract golfing novices to try the sport.
In addition to providing funding, SWALEC has developed a range of marketing materials to help clubs promote their Beginners Schemes including bilingual posters and general information boards.
Hannah Fitzpatrick, Director of Golf Development Wales, commented, "This is a really exciting scheme to promote the sport and to boost the profile of community golf in Wales. It provides an invaluable opportunity for people who have always wanted to try golf, to get down to their local club and pick up a club in the year of the Ryder Cup.
"The clubs are also empowered to target certain groups they would like to attract, such as families, juniors or women, and thereby increase their membership figures."
Alan Williams , Director of Energy Sales, SWALEC, said, "SWALEC is now in the third year of its three-year sponsorship of golf within Wales and the 'Beginners Start Golfing' scheme marks our particular commitment to grassroots and community sport. Through our sponsorship programme, we aim to support the communities we serve and we're delighted to be involved in a scheme that opens the sport of golf to anyone who has an interest in playing."
SWALEC has been supplying power to Welsh homes and businesses for decades and is now helping power community golf throughout Wales. SWALEC's support of golf includes sponsorship of the SWALEC Wales Challenge, a valuable stepping stone onto the European Tour, the SWALEC Junior Challenge and development work with Golf Development Wales to launch a number of community projects, such as a junior and beginner's Golf Rules and Etiquette DVD resource and the SWALEC club Welcome Booklet.
