A group of young people from Penywaun Primary school in Aberdare this month visited the Celtic Manor Resort, host of the 2010 Ryder Cup. The Celtic Manor is one of Europe's leading golf and business resorts, with three top class courses, an award winning clubhouse and floodlit golf academy. It's a fitting home for what is now regarded as one of the world's largest sporting event and will be a focus for millions of enthusiasts from more than 100 countries around the world.
The 5 pupils, from the Communication Disorder Class based at the school, have recently started to play golf after receiving a Tri-Golf bag from RCT Sports Development. As well as learning to play the sport, the children are also going to study the Ryder Cup when they are back in school in September. The visit and tour of the 2010 Ryder Cup site was inspirational to the pupils who all had chance to see where the top professionals will be playing in September. Tracy Griffith from Penywaun said that “we are going to study the Ryder Cup for our topic in September so our recent visit to the 2010 Club at the Resort was an excellent start for us. All the children enjoyed the visit and we would again like to say huge thank you to the Celtic Manor for allowing us to visit”. Now when the pupils study the Ryder Cup in the new term they will have first hand experience of seeing the layout of the course and club house. Who knows, they may go on to be the next upcoming Welsh golfer such as Rhys
Davies!
