Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire Girls Golfing Gigs

Pembrokeshire & Carmarthenshire Girls Golfing Gigs 2017

Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire Ladies County Golf Ass. Hold fun competitions for girls of all standards during the summer months. Each Club take turns to host the event and give tee times free of charge.

It is an opportunity for girls in the area to meet, socialise and have fun whilst playing golf in a friendly format with girls of a similar standard. We encourage Parents of non handicap players to get involved and help scoring etc. There is a small entry fee of £2 to cover the prizes for the day.

At all the Girls’ Golfing Gigs events, the following requirements are necessary:-

·        Parents or responsible adults will be required to act as supervisors or scorers for the Junior Girls.

·        The girls should wear appropriate clothing and footwear, suitable for the weather conditions on the day; e.g. layers of warm clothes & hats on a cold day, outdoor/waterproof clothes on a wet day, hats & sun cream on a hot day.

Junior Girl Members & Guests

As the County girls are becoming friendly with one another, through attendance at various junior tournaments in the county and are keen to continue playing together,    a new system - ‘Junior Girl Members and Guests’ social golf tee-time bookings will be introduced. The new set up will replace the original ‘Girls Golfing Gigs,’ although, the aims are the same (please see attached).

The county would be organised into 3 zones, or areas for the ‘Junior Girl Members and Guests’ scheme, where girls from different clubs, within each of those zones could play golf together, as it would not be too far for parents to travel. The 3 zones are:-

WEST:  Cardigan, Newport Links, St David’s City, Haverfordwest and Milford Haven clubs.

CENTRAL:  South Pembs, Trefloyne, Tenby, Derllys Court and Carmarthen clubs.

EAST:  Glyn Abbey, Ashburnham, Machynys, Glynhir and Garnant clubs.

A total of 9/ 10/ 12 holes would be played, dependent on course layout, in order to help them practise their golf technique, as an incentive to improvement. Girls, who are only capable of playing fewer than 9 holes, from 150 yard markers or less, could also be included to play on either, a Mini Course, or 5 /6 holes on a main course.

1st Event – Glyn Abbey Golf Club - Saturday 8th April.

Preceded by a County C & P Girls’ Coaching Lesson at Machynys GC.

Time -  11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Lunch at Glyn Abbey Golf Club - 1. 15 p.m; with 9 holes on main course and

9-hole Short Par 3 Mission Course.

·  To retain the girls’ interest in the game of golf, through different ‘fun and enjoyable’ competitions, played on various short and full measured courses.

· To encourage the girls to improve their standard of golf.

· To offer opportunities for girls to socialise with other girl golfers, of the same standard and enjoy their golfing activities. (This is especially important, where there are only one or two junior girl members in a club, with several junior boy members).

·  To assist clubs in helping to retain girls as junior members.

· To help those girls who are new to the game, learn basic rules and etiquette of golf.

·  To support the girls in learning how to keep score and mark a scorecard.

·  To give the girls confidence to enter appropriate junior competitions in the region, such as, the 9-hole West Wales Ladies’ Golfing Association, the South Wales Girls’ Golfing Association events, the Welsh Mini Masters and local Junior Open Days.

* For those girls with Congu handicaps, these non-qualifying competitions provide additional opportunities for social golf, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. If you fancy a free 9-holes or more, on some or all of these courses, with other girls and a chance to get to know each other, during a drink and meal after - please come along!
