Our PGA Ambassadors
The Golf Development Wales PGA Professional of the year in 2014, Nicola has a great track record of delivering successful women and girl’s schemes, a thriving junior academy and a wealth of knowledge gained from tutoring courses and workshops. Delivering an academy out of three venues across three Local Authorities, whilst still managing to keep quality levels high is no mean feat.
Over the past two to three years Nicola has also become an important member of the Golf Development Wales team as part of the PGA Ambassador programme. Nicola has met with clubs to give advice and support with planning schools festivals, setting up junior sections and most recently discussed how to integrate female beginners into membership. In that instance, Nicola met with a club to share her knowledge and ideas on how to recruit and retain women through a New2Golf beginner scheme. This resulted in nineteen women joining a scheme in May and by August eight of these had become full members of the club.
The Golf Development Wales PGA Professional of the year in 2013, Mike is a specialist in the fields of junior golf, running inclusive and disability specific sessions and beginner programmes. Mike is the Head Professional at Glyn Abbey Golf Club, which won the Golf Development Wales Club of the Year in 2009 for their development as an incredibly strong community club.
Mike has been part of the PGA Ambassador programme for a couple of years and has worked with clubs to discuss their junior section and disability programmes. Mike has won numerous other awards from Sport Wales and Carmarthenshire County Council, in particular due to the success of his Fairplay Golf Day, which was delivered for the fifth year in 2015, to over 150 disabled young people. Mike has recently worked with another golf club to help them set up a disability festival, which proved to be a great success with over 150 young people attending in its first year (2014). The success has also been sustainable as the number then increased in 2015.
A new addition to the PGA Ambassador programme in 2015, John has a wide variety of knowledge in many areas of golf. John also has experience of delivering elite level coaching in his role as the South East Academy Coach for the Golf Union of Wales. As part of the coaching team at the Celtic Manor Resort he has delivered numerous national schemes such as the Golf Union of Wales Coaching Centres, The Junior Golf Passport and New2Golf. Recently John has supported another club with the delivery of The Junior Golf Passport, supporting the junior section with the delivery of sessions and management of the resources. This has had great success with twenty one juniors attending the first session and six joining as full junior members before leaving the club that day!
