Golf
Foundation Pro-Am |
Members of the business community have
signed up in force for the annual Golf Foundation Pro-Am and
will help to raise nearly £25,000 for junior golf in
Britain.
Up to now, twenty-six teams from the world of golf and industry
have booked a place in the event, which is backed by the PGA
European Tour and held at The Buckinghamshire. On October
10, teams of three amateurs will link up with a professional
to do battle for
prizes in a tournament now in its 19th year and going from
strength to strength – the field is 50 per cent larger
than that of last year’s Pro-Am.
The Golf Foundation is the junior golf development charity
committed to bringing golf to more young people and is an
intergral part of the work of Golf Development Wales.
|
Money raised through the Pro-Am will go towards
some of the Foundation’s key initiatives, including Tri-Golf
in schools (Tri-Golf is a modified golf game that is colourful
and safe and has been introduced to 3,000 primary schools during
the last three years).
A strong field of professionals will be teeing it up, and the
list of high quality players will include one of the sport's
greatest ever amateurs, Golf Foundation President Sir Michael
Bonallack. Sir Michael’s presence is sure to make it a
day to remember and all those golfers taking part – amateur
or professional – will be doing their bit for junior golf.
Final team spaces for the event were being booked at the time
of writing but there were a very small number still available. |

Faldo Series Grand Final |
The Faldo Series Grand Final
will be played on the Roman Road course at the Celtic Manor
Resort on Sunday 18th September.
Featuring some of the best young golfing talent in the UK,
it will be a tough challenge of golf. Wales will be represented
in the girls section of the draw by Becky Harries of Haverfordwest.
Becky recently caddied for James Nesbitt at the All Star Cup
on the same course, so she should be familiar with it.

Wales
lose monetum against Irish |
Having done so well against
Scotland, losing 9 pts to 6 against the Irish dealt a harsh
blow to the Welsh team. The likely destination of the 2005
Raymond Trophy is now very difficult to predict, but Wales
will certainly have to perform better against England on Friday,
as they beat Ireland on the opening day.
